YOGA FOR POSTNATAL RECOVERY WITH YOUR BABY
This is a nurturing practice, specially designed to boost energy, relieve anxiety and to heal and tone the body.
Postnatal yoga works like all yoga; to enhance your vitality and sense of calm and to develop strength and stamina. It is adapted to the specific needs of the postpartum woman and is a powerful aid in the overall recovery of your body whatever your birth experience.
The breathing, movement and relaxation techniques address the physical and emotional changes that take place in the body. They include specific practices to support the back, tone the abdominal region and pelvic floor, stabilise the pelvis, and release tension in the shoulders. It is very enjoyable, aimed at returning strength and stamina to the body, using postures and movement, breath and relaxation.
The breath helps the bodyʼs connective tissues ligaments and muscles to heal. Working together with gentle pelvic ʻmicro movementsʼ the techniques Maxine teaches are highly effective for re-aligning the pelvis and the lower spine, re-connecting to the deep abdominal muscles purely through the breath, helping to ʻcloseʼ the body and encouraging the womb and internal organs to settle back into place, making the most of an invaluable period of time whilst the pelvic ligaments are still soft. Maxineʼs practice are based on the work pioneered by Francoise Barbira Freedman, founder of 'Birthlight' (www.birthlight.com) and Uma Dinsmore Tuli, founder of Sitaram Yoga (www. Sitaram.org). The simple exercises she uses are quick to learn and can be done anytime your baby is sleeping.
All postnatal yoga can be done from any time postpartum. It is never too late to exercise and to learn useful postnatal recovery yoga techniques, whether it be weeks, months or years! The benefits both short and long term, such as strengthening the pelvic floor, a healthy womb, correct positioning of internal organs and healing of stomach muscles, can positively impact a womenʼs health 5/10/20 years down the line and help to avoid many gynecological issues that can be traced back to childbirth. Maxine offers home visits, group and private classes.
The aim of these sessions is to create a relaxed and baby friendly atmosphere in which new mothers can de-stress, get fit in a highly effective, gentle and therapeutic way.
I am passionate about using yoga as a tool for creating a sense of complete well being of mind and body adapting it to suit the needs of the individual.
