Hatha Yoga Class description
Suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced, all classes open to all regardless of age or ability. Benefit from tailored guidance. Discover or re-visit the fundamental principles of yoga in a supportive and friendly environment.
The Wednesday Gentle class is specifically aimed at newcomers to yoga and those who prefer a more gentle practice. The difference between the Wednesday Gentle and the Thursday Mellow Chair Yoga and Meditation class is that the Thursday class is chair based and does not involve going down to the mat.
The Saturday Active Flow Yoga class is aimed at those seeking a more of a 'yang' active practice.
All classes include breathing techniques, yoga postures, movements, flowing sequences, restorative poses – and mindfulness, meditation and relaxation techniques.
The focus is on enhancing mental and physical well-being, and building stamina, strength and flexibility along the way, in a friendly, supportive and relaxed environment.
Numbers are limited to ensure personal attention and a sensitive approach to individual needs. Students are encouraged and guided to work to their own capabilities. Scroll down to read more about the contents of these 'hatha' classes.
The Tuesday evening class at Alyth has a maximum of 12 places.
Morning classes are more bespoke, a 'semi-private' class with a maximum of 9 students, as are the monthly weekend yoga mornings.

What to bring
Students are recommended to bring a mat, and a fleece or small blanket for relaxation at the end of class (when your body temperature will drop a little while resting).
Don't worry if you have not got a mat, you can borrow one, initially. Mats are available in class.
High quality mats available to buy at cost price for students (£18 from Yogamatters.com).
Come wearing loose comfortable clothes.
Eat lightly beforehand – it is best not to practice yoga on a full stomach.
Private classes
One to One or small groups, are available in the comfort of my home studio in NW11 or at your home or workplace. Maybe you need a class to fit your schedule, you have a particular area or injury you'd like to focus on, or would like to arrange class with family, friends or colleagues? These work very well alongside attending group classes
Monthly weekend morning workshops
These tailored workshops build on all the practices we do in class but with the added benefit of having time to go deeper into the poses and sequences. I modify the practices to tailor to those attending, new to yoga, experienced or otherwise. More details .
More about hatha classes
Yoga is a practice of ‘self management’. Working with different parts of the body, observing and improving your respiration fitness and energy levels, you start to feel more in balance.
The Sanskrit word for poses, ‘asana’ translates as ‘ease’ and ‘comfortable’.
Through a range of active sequences, ‘yin’ poses (holding poses), restorative yoga (resting poses), breathing, meditation and mindfulness practices, explore how to work with your body. By drawing your awareness inwards, you start to work with your body without ‘forcing’ it.
There is focus on regulating the breath (‘pranayama’) and connecting to its flow. The breath is the transporter of 'prana' (life force), so how we chose to use it directly affects how we can manage and improve our physical, mental energy levels to enhance our well-being.
The feeling of peace and release you might notice at the end of the class is when you are back in tune with the natural rhythm of the breath, which most of the time in daily life is out of kilter.
Practice how to ride the natural rhythm of the breath gracefully as we move.
When we apply too much effort we notice how the breath becomes constricted and if we lose focus, the rhythm stops. Breath, balance, movement and stillness… a yoga session will leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed
